MUSIC INDUSTRY WORKSHOPS FOR MID-WINTER BREAK (PAID)
WHO: Young people ages 14–17 who live within New York City.
WHAT: The B-Side is a program for young people that provides an introduction to different career opportunities in the music industry. Whether participants are aspiring artists or future music-industry leaders, this program will provide essential industry-related skills, along with the opportunity to make connections with performing artists, music-industry executives, accomplished producers, songwriters, and more.
The B-Side curriculum, designed by Carnegie Hall teaching artists and music industry professionals, is supported by guest-speaker panels, field trips, networking events, and more.
Workshops will take place at Carnegie Hall’s Resnick Education Wing in Manhattan (154 West 57th Street, New York, 10019).
You will receive a stipend for your participation.
Transportation and food are provided during the program.

DRAWING ALL-STARS (PAID) Deadline: 12/23/24

WHO: High school students in grades 9 & 10
WHAT: Drawing All-Stars is a FREE 2.5 year pre-professional fellowship for high schoolers in grades 9th and 10th led by Teen Art Salon in partnership with The Drawing Center. Focusing on New York City’s next generation of artists, the program supports teens to expand their drawing practices, amplify their artistic ambitions, and pursue creative career endeavors.
Over the two and a half year period participants will develop a portfolio, craft individual style and a critical voice, and build a diverse body of major works through uninterrupted studio time.
A stipend of $500 will be included each year for full participation.
Young artists are provided the pre-professional fellowship from February 2025 - June 2027, which will include:
1. 600 hours of arts instruction over the course of the two and a half year program, including drawing classes, independent studio time, and field trips;
2. the opportunity to meet and learn from local artists, curators, and students at fine arts colleges;
3. developing polished portfolios of visual art and applying to competitive art colleges; and
4. exhibiting work in the Drawing Center’s annual spring exhibition.

WHO: High school students 13 or older
WHAT: The Teen DocMakers Lab (TDM) is a free award-winning, year-round, after school and summer intensive film program where high school students work in small teams to make a short documentary. TDM’s curriculum is founded in the cinematic tradition of the Maysles brothers, direct cinema/cinema verité, and encourages exploration of new approaches to filmmaking grounded in the innovative films/makers of today. We are looking for youth who have a story to tell, and want to make moving and honest films about subjects important to them.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
TDM’s curriculum covers the documentary filmmaking process from start to finish. Working in small peer groups, you will learn how to operate a camera, lighting, audio equipment and state-of the-art editing software. The curriculum covers the process from concept to shooting: shot lists, story-boards, shooting scripts, visual composition, directing and editing.

Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden (PAID) Deadline: 12/08/24
Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden (PAID)
WHO: Applicants must be high school students in 9th-1th
WHAT: The Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way for teens to learn about urban agriculture and the environment while working in one of the most exciting public gardens in the world! Apprentices can work their way up the four-tier program. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and want to work with other teens, GAP may be for you.
Apprentices make a nine-month commitment to GAP, from March to November, which includes spring training, summer programming, and a weekly commitment throughout the spring and fall.
Tier 1
Open to students in 9th grade
Tier 1 apprentices build skills in urban faming while learning to become an effective environmental educators. They spend most of their time gardening outdoors, cooking with fresh ingredients, crafting, and exploring nature with children aged 4–12, guided by an adult instructor and a Tier 4 apprentice.
Reimbursement: $600
Tier 2
Open to students in 10th grade or to those who have successfully completed Tier 1
Tier 2 apprentices work both behind the scenes and with the public at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Apprentices learn about different horticultural approaches, teach visitors about botany in the Discovery Garden, and conduct science experiments.
Reimbursement: $700
Tier 3
Open to students in 11th grade or to those who have successfully completed Tier 2
Tier 3 apprentices work in teams to research, design, and create their own GAP carts, education stations that are wheeled out into the Garden. Tier 3 apprentices practice public-speaking and teaching skills as they engage with Garden visitors from all over the world.
Tier 3 apprentices serve as role models and leaders for other apprentices.
Tier 3 apprentices who are rising seniors participate in college preparation sessions to start the college application process.
Reimbursement: $800
Tier 4
Open to students who have successfully completed Tier 3
Tier 4 apprentices hone the skills they need to become effective environmental educators. With the mentorship of an adult instructor, Tier 4 apprentices spend most of their time gardening outdoors, cooking with fresh ingredients, crafting, and exploring nature with children aged 4–12.
Tier 4 apprentices receive leadership training and serve as role models and leaders for other apprentices.
Tier 4 apprentices who are rising seniors participate in college preparation sessions to start the college application process.
Tier 4 apprentices are onboarded as BBG staff and earn $16.50 per hour.
