WHO: High school Students
WHAT: Sound+Science is an innovative after-school program, research lab, and community in NYC for high school students interested in exploring the unique and deep connection between music, science, and technology. Through a unique curriculum, participants will explore modules like ‘The Hidden Codes in Electronic Music’, ‘From Hip-Hop to AI’, and Music Improvisation and the Evolution of the Mathematics of Computation Sound+Science, revealing the profound connections between music, technology, physics and mathematics. Participants can look forward to Masterclass Lectures, where industry experts shed light on the confluence of music and technology and the Studio Labs, which provide a hands-on environment for participants to apply their knowledge, fostering creativity and collaboration. Sound+Science will also offer a challenging and supportive environment that pairs high school students with local college STEM majors as they work together on Incentive-based projects designed to challenge and motivate participants to create real-world applications that resonate with musicians, producers, and coders while facilitating knowledge exchange and mutual growth.

WHO: High school Students 14-21
WHAT: Engages youth in social justice activism through community drumming, singing and chanting in the community. This program is designed to provide students with an appreciation of percussion music as an art form, a cultural practice, a tool for social justice activism, and as a way to build community; all pursuits that can be developed for a lifetime. Participants will be inspired to use music as a tool for enjoyment, self-realization and liberation, for themselves and for each other as a community.

WHO: High school Students in 10th Grade
WHAT: A three-year, paid youth development program for those entering their sophomore year of high school through senior year. Fellows gain leadership skills, explore careers, and prepare for college and beyond with a starting pay of $18/hour. This opportunity is more than just their best first job experience: Fellows get a one-of-a-kind hands-on learning opportunity that draws from the High Line’s core strengths, building their confidence as leaders while connecting with peers and professionals across New York City.

NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN EXPLAINERS PROGRAM (PAID)
WHO: High school Students
WHAT: Teens share a sense of community, forge new friendships, and spend time outdoors exploring nature. Teens become more self-confident through public speaking, gain a deeper knowledge of a topic (plant science and ecology specifically), and share experiences with peers.
During the Onsite Internship, MetroCards are provided to defray the cost of transportation to and from the Garden. The onsite Internship benefits include admission for Explainers’ families to visit the garden, discounts at the Cafe and Shop in the Garden as well as documentation of service hours and recommendations for college or other scholarship programs.
WHERE: Everett Children’s Adventure Garden Pop-Up
WHEN: Each session requires a commitment to attend all four training days and one weekend shift of 4.5 hours for the duration of the internship.
