DIGITAL GIRL PROGRAM (UNPAID)

WHO: Any high school student

WHAT: Our mission is to encourage inner city youth, especially girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We are motivated by the United States overall lag in producing an adequate number of STEM professionals and the under representation of women and people of color.Women who work in STEM fields make 33% more than women in non-STEM positions. Uplifting our women is key to bringing this community, and other communities in a similar circumstance, out of poverty.Through early application, hands on training, mentorship, tutoring and social events Digital Girl, Inc. will boost confidence, raise self esteem and STEM career awareness within less fortunate areas to create professionals who can be positive contributors to society.

STUDENT ART PROGRAM (PAID)

WHO: All NYC high school students (grades 9–12)

WHAT: Exhibit your artwork, build your portfolio, each exhibiting artist gets a $100 Blick gift card. We curate from original artwork and take care of it and return It if unselected. If your work is selected, it is framed and installed in a group show of teen artists across NYC. Your artwork will be in our permanent online gallery.

CHINATOWN YMCA: TWO BRIDGES CORNERSTONE (PAID)

WHO: Any student 14+

WHAT: Participate in the YMCA to build a community that not only works hard, but also plays hard! Interning at the Y will help prepare you with soft skills related to event planning, organizing, public speaking, working on teams, and more! There are also fun games available for you to play when working with others.

WHERE: 286 South Street, New York, NY 10002

WHEN: Depends on your availability: Open from 6 Pm - 9:30 Pm on M-F and 11 Am - 4:30 Pm on Saturday (15 hrs/week)

WEST SIDE YMCA (PAID)

WHO: Any student 14+

WHAT: Participate in the YMCA to build a community that not only works hard, but also plays hard! Interning at the Y will give you free access to programs focused on college readiness (ex: workshops, college tours, career events and financial literacy), teen center (ex: different sports, access to the gym facilities, fitness center classes, and academic support), and more.

COMPUTER COACH AT THE BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBARY (UNPAID) 

WHO: Any student 14+

WHAT: You'll help library users improve their technical knowledge by Assisting them with Technology Resource Specialist (TRS) in guiding library patrons with ABC log-on and PC reservation procedures and other functions. Assisting library users with requests for print jobs and providing basic help instructions to patrons, using Windows-based software, including the Web. Assisting TRS by troubleshooting technology problems, when possible, checking equipment at the end of the shift to ensure that all computers are working and Assist patrons in using the BPL Catalog, as well as My Account, Live and other online Library resources.

WHERE: Based on preference (choose a location)

WHEN: 2 to 3 hours per week, for a period of at least three months.
