Level 1 Academic Athletic Development
AAD100: Level 1 Academic Athletic Development
Head of Department:
Course Description
This is the Quintessential Physical Education course for all highly motivated student athletes at Stream. There is a strong thematic focus on learning with, through and about sports - however as you will find, playing and performing is just a small part of the picture that is the world of sports. If sports really interest you and bring you enjoyment, consider this course which combines academic learning with sporting activities and contexts.
In this course you will learn about the science behind maximising sports performance. You will get a chance to take on a position of responsibility within the context of a student-led sports tournament and explore if you have the right skills to carry out that role and make the event a success for everyone. We will pick a physical skill from your own area of interest and use motor learning theory to grow and hone your ability to skillfully perform it. Of course, there will also be some opportunities to demonstrate your physical skills, tactics and team contribution in a range of competitive sporting contexts. In addition, we will examine the influences affecting the choices you make about what you use to fuel your body for daily life and performance.
Timetabled class time will be split between practical and theoretical learning tasks. If you just want to kit up and play every day, join a sports team; if you want to learn and grow as a student and a performer, join us.
