Molasses Crinkles
Makes 4 dozen (or 28, if you make them like me)
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Granulated sugar, for dipping
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix the brown sugar, shortening, egg and molasses in a mixer using the paddle attachment until combined. Add the remaining ingredients except the granulated sugar. Mix to combine.
Using a small cookie scoop for uniformity, shape the dough into balls. Dip the tops, only, into the granulated sugar. Place on a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until just set. You don't want to overcook these cookies.
Remove immediately from the cookie sheet to cool.
