SLKPA Match report v Woolwich CC A (away)

Post date: May 1, 2009 10:57:45 AM

Our first game in the Elite League pitched us up versus a newly moved and revamped team of Woolwich CC A. (Which is mainly the GeorgeIV team with Clive Black).

First set was lost 4 -1 with only Rocket picking up a frame, but the dogs produced enough chances to show we could compete.

This showed in the second set with the 'One season Wonder' Glen and Rocket picking up wins early on in set. This led to a 1 frame match decider between Mopster and 'Lobster' (Adam Coppen). Lobster got down to black first but never really had a proper shot at it. This left Mop to take the remaining 4 yellows and a long black to take the dogs first set in style. 3-2 to the dogs.. 1-1 in sets

Key match of the third set was the third game. It was 1-1 after another impressive performance from Clive from woolwich CC to take the first, and Glen taking his second of the night courtesy of Lobster potting the black early.

Third was Rocket v Joe. Rocket was already on 2 for 2 and looking for third. It was a tight tactical game and both were up to the task so it proved an even affair. Joe just sneaked over the line first. 1-2

Next up was Craig/Pinkie. Craig broke with white going down. Pinkie made a great attempt to take the game on his 1st visit. He left himself a carom on the black to win, which he just failed to make. With all the balls in the open Craig doesn't hang around long, and he took the 4th frame and the night/set win. Mop played Gary last and salvaged the last frame to the dogs.

Score: 6-9 Frames and 1-2 sets. Both to Woolwich CC A

Verdict: The dogs were not shown up and have a couple of players still to enter the fray. We should be able to compete in all the Elite games and look forward to the pool.
