Match report v Royal Oak (home)

Post date: Oct 29, 2008 10:45:34 AM

Both teams were up for a good battle.

Things started badly for the Harry dogs. With Pinkie having a good oppurtunity with 2 shots to clear in the end game. He threw his chance away which left Mike to pay a good attacking safety to ultimately gain the first frame for the Oak.

Mop still trying to calm his attacking pool style from playing WR! Saw his chance to go for it with an audacious pot promotion of the black of 2 cushions! He almost managed it!. But he did leave himself an option for an attacking safety shot on black which lead to an easy clearence next shot for Mop.

Next up John v Paul Clements. Going to be interesting match up, but an in game refs call caused all the scandal in this game. Paul C played a snooker which turned out better than he expected after a yellow closed most of the escape angle. Old EPA rules state Rule 9

Should any situation arise whereby a legal shot is IMPOSSIBLE to play, then the game shall be restarted by the player who started that frame, whether this situation has been arrived at by accident or design.

Ref called an escape angle was still avialable by going off a very close cushion, so a legal shot was possible, and no re-rack. Although an escape was not really possible as the angle was so close!

This seem to throw both players out of their potting stride, several clearence chances missed by both players later. Paul C comes away with the frame. John still fuming about the ruling packed his cue up and left! Ummmm, some take it a bit too seriously. Its only a game of pool! Dummy was thrown

Mark Hill plays Rocket Ryan. Mr Hill plays a very good game, and clears up with an escape and pot, then a good black double.

Last 2 games were shared with Keith losing his first game of the season, and Glen keeping his good form with a good long black to take the last singles.

2-4 down after singles.

Starting pairs for Harry were Keith and Mop. PaulC/Mike go down to black first but only had a hard double to try and win. Missing this then left Keith a good chance to win which he spurned, which in turn left a very hard long black for Paul C. Paul C played an excellend shot and took the frame and night win.

Pinkie/Rocket. Pinkie producing a lovely 6 ball break but failed to take the last simple yellow, which led to loss of game for Pinkie and Rocket.

Last game was Paul/Glen. Things looked bleak when Glen gave 2 shots away at the end game. But Mr Hill hit the self destruct button and decided to end the game early by potting the black while still having some of his colours to go!

Final Score 3-6. A good performance by the Oak boys get them back in title running. And an early bath forJohn.
