Match report v Village Inn

Post date: Feb 16, 2011 1:02:40 PM

Big match time in Ivor Thomas League. Master8ers were playing away to Village Inn Vets who are currently top of the league. And got a great record of only losing to us for the whole season so far.

With both teams knowing each other well. As the away team I get to pit player v player on the sheet. Slightly surprised we could not play against our Thursday player young Stephen Marsters, as he was not on the starting 6. I'm sure he would have loved to put one over us ;) so probably our gain there....

Captain Power wanted to pit himself against top potter John from Village Inn in first match. Match didn’t last long. A CP dry break .almost lead to a dish from John, but he got in his 2nd visit as CP failed to find a snooker. Thats CP's unbeaten run gone.. :(

Captains up next as Mop pitted himself v Dave Faulkes. Another attacking game once the table opened up. Mop had a couple of chances first which he spurned, which then looked like Dave was going to clear with a couple of chances which he spurned also. It finally led to mop sneaking in a double black of Daves final red

Potting feast was always going to stop from now. Jim v Wobbly was a tactics marathon with Wobbly finally coming victorious but both have chances before the final black was dropped

Glen looked like he had a win too. Getting down to black first but leaving it in the jaws. And even missed a simple escape to get it too. But a good finish by Alan took Village inns second game

Man who cant be mentioned (MWCBM) missed position on black led to another snooker marathon. MWCBM coming out winner after Steve Redout made an error of potting the white in trying to get a snooker

3-2 up.

Rocket v Tommy was a more attacking game. But was not that short of a game as Tommy kept giving 2 shots away and Rocket seemed to have forgotten how to pot a ball! But somehow rocket fell over the winning line

4-2

Time to tuck into some of Jim's nice sausages.. ooh err missus :) While doubles were worked out.

Too many mistakes and bad play by both teams to mention in the doubles! Somehow more by luck than judgment. Master8'ers managed to win all three of them. Still not sure how.

As Jim mentioned at the end of the night.. A Battle is Won but the War is not Over.. a fitting quote

Still that’s a double over both the Village inn and the yacht.. Not a bad season so far!

Result: A 7:2 win v league title contenders puts us in a strong league position. Still 2nd but we have a game in hand. We are probably best in 2nd place, we don’t like the pressure of leading the pack!
