Match Report v yacht

Post date: Sep 22, 2010 9:40:48 AM

First game of the season pitted us versus our nemesis team. The yacht!

Having only taken 3 frames of them last season! and the season before being knocked out in semi's of team KO. We were fearful of the fixture and their slow tactics play!

But onward we battle :)

We were welcomed by a very busy pub. Certainly a place to come and get some food! the place was packed.

As for the pool table.. It was freshly reclothed last week. It was looking nice and was flat. But my god was it slow, It felt like you were playing through treacle.

Wobbly up first on the treacle. The black was flirting near the middle pocket and Gary (wobbly's opponent) was close to potting it early in game. Wobbly got down to the black first though but was unable to pot it, leaving Gary to clear table on his next visit.

Ex Captain Power up next. His break potted and left a good chance for clearence on his colour. He decided to play safe and cover a pocket after potting a few. This worked well as he soon got his oppurtunity to clear which he took in style.

Less style in next game. mop up and was a game of many missed chances and fouls! Mop took a good black to finish though, through a half covered pocket., Rocket up and he showed a master class of potting. Finishing with an impressive long red followed by an equally impressive black to win. 3-1 up

The John's were up! Our John versus John Swales... Our John wanted the stop clock on the game as we have had many a long encounter with the Mr Swales. Captains discussed and Mop had a handly placed stop clock he had brought with him just in case.. :). The game was attacking.. (the desired effect), Could of gone either way, but our John took the finish. OSW last and he finished with a win too, versus a young newbie Jack from the yacht who potted some good balls...

5-1 up after singles.. The master8ers were in shock! The yacht were blaming their own table... And it was only 9:50pm! Was this really happening!

Keith joined the action in the doubles with Rocket. Keith actually out potted the in form Rocket and took the first doubles.

Kev/Mop combination produced the first tactics game of the night with a blocked pocket. A loose shot and foul by Dickon from the yacht gave an oppurtunity to clear. Which CP took with a good finish again.

Last game was over in a flash. Mainly because OSW potted an accidental black on his second shot!

Score: A Master8ers 7:2 win! And it finished at 10:24pm. I am currently speaking with the Guiness book of records to see if that is a world record.. A masterful display of potting by the snooker boys. And finally we can say we have beaten the yacht after 2 years of playing them! The curse has been broken with the help of a stopwatch and some treacle :)
