Match Report v Yacht

Post date: Nov 2, 2011 12:45:19 PM

We shall put this match down to a learning experience.

The Yacht wanted to play all the games under the stopwatch. Although this was only suppose to be brought in if games were running slow not at the start of the night. But master8ers always the gracious side said that was fine....And ref and stopwatches were out from the start.

Captain Power kept up his great start. He was lucky though! he was on his last ball and Gary was playing the safety game. CP got the upper hand and could of played safe behind his last ball. But no, in a moment of rashness and he went for the pot and then finished the black as well. He was lucky to get away with it. But really he should of lost for his attacking spirit

Wobbly up next and this game was a master-peace of tactics. This was played how the game was suppose to be played. Both players were stroking the balls around the table with ease, blocked pockets were there. Snookers were laid and some escaped some not. 2 shots were used to get tactical advantage on the table. It was stunning. Wobbly manage to pull off the win. Both teams were in awe of the frame that was just played. Could any other live up to that. They all could..

The problem is that the Master8ers were too attacking. Pots were attempted and this is a no-no in old rules when you play a team like the yacht, who are masters of the proper tactics of the game.

Rocket then Marster Blaster fell foul to this onslaught of tight defensive pool . Mop thought he had the game to match the pro John Swales. But he too failed and even committed suicide to end it quickly (30 mins) by planting the black into the middle.

OSW by now knew what to expect in the last singles, and he knew he could not live up to what was required. A few more drinks for courage and he started the epic battle But his skill of potting balls was not enough.

2-4 after singles.

It was getting late now. Bar was closing but the doubles were started. The Yacht boys were buoyed with the lessons they were teaching us in the art of the pool. We were exhausted. We could only take so much learning in one night and some of the morning....

Rocket lost it. He didn't know what to do, ending up in him smashing the balls apart to try and end the pain. He was taught a lesson that hitting a ball hard was not part of the game of pool.

OSWs drinks of courage might of cost us the next game, when opening occurred he could not see the balls to hit them!

The last doubles and it was just too late to play pool. No one could pot and balls were not running for master8ers by now. After 3 consecrative foul shots given to the yacht and a missed last pot by master8ers the yacht finished their fine display of pool.

Result: 7-2 loss and our first loss in 13 tuesday pool nights. But we were handed a valuable lesson on how to play pool this night. It looks like we need to be more like the Yacht to compete in this league these days. We shall be looking to play defensive pool from now on. It's the way forward and looks so rewarding.
