Perfect Every Time Cut Out Cookies

What you need:

    • 3 cups all purpose flour
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 sticks salted butter, cold, cut into chunks
    • 1 egg
    • 3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 1/2 tsp. almond extract

Directions:

    1. Cream together sugar and butter.
    2. Add the egg and extracts and mix together.
    3. Stir together flour and baking powder in a separate bowl and then add slowly into butter mixture until just combined. Scrape the sides and bottom every so often. It will look crumbly and that is A-Okay!
    4. Grab the dough from the bowl and knead it together gently to form a ball.
    5. Roll the ball of dough on a lightly floured surface around 1/4 of an inch thick.
    6. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes out. Put the cookie shapes onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
    7. Place in the freezer for about 5 minutes. This keeps them from spreading out.
    8. Bake in a preheated 350* oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Let rest on sheet for about 2 minutes and remove to a wire rack to finish cooling.
    9. Reroll the dough out and cut more shapes, freeze, and bake until you have used up your dough.
    10. Decorate cooled cookies as desired!

Note: You can freeze any "leftover" dough if you want. Wrap it in plastic cling wrap and then place in a plastic baggie (squeezing out any extra air). It keeps for 3 to 6 months!
