Article 159 - Architecture as Relativism

Architecture as Relativism

This essay examines the nature of Relativism in relation to philosophical theory, Universe, Quantum, Mind, Randomness, Design, Analysis, Problem solving, Art and Architecture to arrive at a considered definition of Architectures own nature in our current age.

Theory

The remaining, validated philosophical theories of our age share the principles of, individual, non-specific gender or life form, sensory experience in all cultures and societies, concept, analysis, study, critical thinking, scientific evidence, critical communication to promote human survival, fulfil needs and achieve evolution.

This is Relativism in all things, removing absolute truths in favour of communication and an ongoing transfer of understanding.

Universal Relativism

Relativism also defines the way humans sense the Universe.

They sense it as ‘Proper’, expanding and accelerating faster than the speed of light relative to cosmological time and ‘Comoving’, as an Observable and measurable volume but not expanding in time relative to a human lifespan.

The universe can be observed back in time to 13,700,000,000 years up to the observable horizon.

The universe is larger than this but cannot be observed since it is accelerating and expanding.

The true age of the universe is a matter of ongoing debate developed into multiple, relative interpretations.

The Relativism also allows all views to be considered, co-exist without eminence and to inform the debate.

Quantum Relativism

Relativism also defines the way humans sense the atomic and subatomic.

Humans are environmentally biased to sensing at a Classical Mechanical level and so they examine anything at or below this level in Quantum Mechanical measurements of uncertainty and probability in a time dilation.

This leads to the necessity of allowing all things to have all possible locations, forms, energy, mass, movements in relation to one dimension of time and three dimensions of space.

Once observed the nature of any occurrence being detected is established.

Once the observation is ceased the nature of any occurrence is unknown.

Mind Relativism

Within the Universal and Quantum boundaries of the human reality system human sensory systems create an evolving reality of all interactions.

The Human Memory, Mind, Self, Consciousness, Thought, Emotion, Language and Communication are therefore the point of Creation, adaptation and evolution of the Universal Architecture of interaction.

Relative Randomness

‘Randomness is the lack of pattern or predictability in events.’

Source: Wikipedia and OED

Randomness can also be defined as any relative occurrence that is forced into a new order, arrangement, sequence, reality that is non-sequential or chaotic in relation to its predecessors.

In this second interpretation there is no randomness only a relative change in reality in the Universe.

Design

Is a relative decision process to create something as a response.

Analysis

Is a relative process of breaking down, emerging or evolving a mathematical model of anything in order to establish its nature and understand it

Problem Solving

Is using previous relative sensory inputs and synaptic encoding to create and implement a suitable design response.

Relative Art and Architecture

Art it is a relative product of human activities intended as a communication.

Art is interpretable as non-random since it is a deliberate creation that is evolved to an optimised state to produce a pre-determined effect. A forced relative reality.

Art is formed by conditioning from the last human generation and is linked to culture and context.

All new Art evolves the previous concepts, memories, sensory inputs and sensory outputs of a culture. Its function is to communicate the personal, contextual, sensory interpretation of reality of its own generation, its own genome.

Art is not confined to humans. Animals and plants also exhibit this ability.

Architecture is a functional art. It extended Art into a new reality. It has always been relative in its conception and application.

The Relative Architecture

Architecture does not need inventing as a ‘style’ it is already being carried out in millions of forms.

It has deep relativistic languages relating to multiple histories that allow the relative interpretation of current context and the proposal for future solutions. It needs to be celebrated for its diversity.

To quote Etienne-Louis Boullée

'In order to execute, it is first necessary to conceive. Our earliest ancestors built their huts only when they had a picture of them in their minds. It is this product of the mind, this process of creation, that constitutes architecture and which can consequently be defined as the art of designing and bringing to perfection any building whatsoever. Thus, the art of construction is merely an auxiliary art which, in our opinion, could appropriately be called the scientific side of architecture.'

The Relative Architecture is therefore in current context a relative product of the mind, a process of creation.
