Article 024 - Human Habitat costs in Britain
Human Habitat costs in Britain.
There are a number of ways a human can obtain and finance a habitat in Britain.
Self sufficiency
They can set up a self contained sustainable croft habitat, in its own land area.
These are the basic issues and approx. costs for this form of habitat.
1. Purchase the land. = 60,000
2. Register the land. =100
3. Get planning permission to live on the land
in a mobile home for 3 years maximum =300-25,000
4. To get permission to create a permanent
dwelling on the land. ` =500
Set up a smallholding business on the land.
Earn the minimum wage from the business
for 1 year out of 3 years. =29,000
Demonstrate that the business can be maintained
at or above the minimum wage level shown.
Planning permission may then be granted for a
permanent dwelling that is the size that can be
supported by the wages earned from the land.
The approval will come with conditions that must
be met.
5. Building Regulations consent will be required. =1000
6. Highways consent will be required. =1000
7. Environment issues approvals relating to water,
drainage, visual impact will be required. =2000
8. Health issue approvals will be required.
For humans and animals and crops alike. = 2000
9. Insurances will be required. =2000
10.Professional fees =20,000
11.Cost of new dwelling =250,000
12.Cost of smallholding / animal care / animals =30,000
13.Food / Fuel / Transport /Life etc. =29,000
14. Council tax. =3,000
Total for initial year for a 1 acre site = 454,600.
This is therefore not easy to finance, carry out, run or resell. It is therefore not very common currently. If however energy, resource and environmental depletion occur at the rate predicted this is exactly the type of habitat that will be needed.
New Build or Conversion House Purchase
When you buy houses in Britain as new build or conversion these are the basic issues and approx. costs for this form of habitat.
1. Purchase the house. =250,000
2. Register the house. =500
3. Get Planning approvals. =1000
4. Get Building Regulations approval. =1000
5. Get Highways approvals.
6. Get Environmental issue approvals
relating to water, drainage, visual impact. =2000
7. Insurances. =2000
8. Professional fees =8,000
9. Council tax per year. =3,000
10.Food / Fuel / Transport /Life etc. =29,000
Total for initial year = 296,500
This is considered easier to finance, carry out and resell and so is currently more common.
It requires locating the humans into a community system and transport system.
It requires a pre-formed dependency system that the humans contribute to allow the whole society to exist.
It requires a large annual cost to maintain the infrastructure of these societies.
It requires a large national grid system to provide power, light, heating, ventilation, water, removal and treatment of sewage and waste, provide hygiene, education, transport, emergency services, and provide defense and administration for.
It requires massive energy, natural resource and environment depletion to allow each individual to survive.
It requires a model of society that is currently failing precisely because of these depletions.
Mobile Homes
When you buy a static caravan in Britain these are the basic issues and approx. costs for this form of habitat.
1. Purchase thecaravan. = av. 45,000
2. Running costs for static caravan. = 5,000.
3. Pitch costs for a static caravan. = incl.
4. Service costs for a static caravan. = incl.
5. Insurances for a static caravan. =1,200
7. Professional fees =2,000
8. Council tax per year =1,200
9.Food / Fuel / Transport /Life etc. =29,000
Total for initial year = 83,400
This is an easier option to finance and carry out. It is however not easy to resell and so is a less popular full time form of habitat for the younger part of the population and is popular with the retired or elderly in society.
Nomadic
This is a rare type of habitat choice but it is the oldest.
These are the basic issues and approx. costs for this form of habitat.
1. Sales of house = + 150,000
2. Food / Fuel / Transport /Life etc. =12,000
Total for initial year =12,000
Assuming that you have full house ownership that you can sell before becoming nomadic then the initial house sale allows for 12 years nomadic life to occur.
This form of life is easier to finance, carry out and so is an increasingly popular form.
It isolates people from the large ongoing financial contributions to maintain the infrastructure of these societies.
It still requires a large national grid system to provide power, light, heating, ventilation, water, removal and treatment of sewage and waste, provide hygiene, education, transport, emergency services, and provide defense and administration for.
It still requires a model of society that is currently failing precisely because of energy, resource and environmental depletion.
Summary
In order of finance the types of habitat available are nomadic, mobile home, house purchase, and then self sufficiency.
If energy, resource and environmental depletion continue at the current rate or accelerate due to increased populations then all of the existing models of human habitat in Britain will become obsolete.
The only future solution appears to be a localization of services and a movement to a self sufficient form of life.
The cost of self sufficiency however indicates that the transfer over to a green economy with self sufficient autonomous homes will not be possible by extending the habitats into the green belt areas since this option cannot be funded or resourced.
The only possible self-sufficient option is therefore to adapt the existing housing stock into autonomous dwellings.
