Article 108 - Architecture is Response not Theory

Architecture is Response not Theory

Architecture is not theoretical anymore. It is thoroughly understood as a functional art.

The Art of the master builders is an encyclopaedic knowledge that is currently an ongoing response.

Architecture obtains the descriptions of the new technology, materials, specifications, connections and regulations provided by all construction product designers, manufacturers, suppliers and regulatory bodies and then combines them within a unified of response.

Architecture is not over.

It does have challenges that need to be investigated and responses to them identified.

These challenges are

Increasing global population.

Increased global urbanization.

Depleting global resources.

Depleting global energy levels.

Depleting global climate and environment.

A move from a carbon based society to a renewable energy society.

The end of the use of fossil fuels.

Unstable societies.

Unstable cultures.

Religious conflict.

Ideological conflict.

Economic conflict.

Political extremism related to Green Issues.

Increased global communications.

If this list of issues occurs then construction will not be the initial purpose or response of Architecture.

In a depleting, unstable, resource world Architecture must initially respond by identifying and analysing future issues. It must then respond to each with a pure idea, to test if the built response is needed. It must recognise that no issue is independent of any other. All must be balanced for humans to survive and prosper.

It must be Absolute Architecture. An absolute solution to the ‘death anxiety’ that will pervade our global society to the end of this century.

Architecture must be a pure creation of mind, opinion, from facts, not theory, to resolve needs that embody the spiritual and romantic sensory communications of humans trying to survive the environment.
