Course Overview and Materials
This summer school course has 8 units of study. It is an intense, demanding, and rigorous course as outlined by Alberta Education. Expect to be working on the course 5 to 7 hours each day for the month of July. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
To what extent should we embrace nationalism? Explore the answer to this question as you examine historical and contemporary understandings of nationalism in Canada and the world. Examine the origins and impacts of nationalism on individuals and communities from a variety of perspectives through examples of nationalism, ultra-nationalism, supra-nationalism, and internationalism. Topics include the French Revolution, World War I, Nazi Germany, and the development of foreign policy in the Global Village. This is the second course in the stream for students who want to achieve the basic Social Studies requirements. This course includes supervised assignments, unit review quizzes, and the final exam.
*Proctorio is required for these supervised assessments. A webcam and microphone are required to complete Proctorio assessments.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 50% in Social Studies 10-2 or 40% in Social Studies 10-1.
