Course Overview and Materials
In this course, you’ll gain the mathematical understanding and critical thinking skills appropriate for entry into post-secondary programs that don’t require the study of calculus. Topics of study include set theory, counting methods, probability, rational expressions, polynomial functions, and more. If you’re considering post-secondary fields such as arts, nursing, civil engineering technology, medical technologies, or some apprenticeship programs, this is the math course for you.
The course material is sectioned into 8 units and a research project. Each unit contains an assignment as well as several practice quizzes. There are 4 supervised tests (Unit 1/2, Unit 3/4, Unit 5/6 and Unit 7/8) and a supervised Final Exam. Students must complete the Final exam to earn credit for this course.
Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for a final mark to appear on your transcript.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 55% in Mathematics 20-2 or a minimum of 40% in Mathematics 20-1. If a student has not taken the prerequisite course, they are still responsible for ensuring they have the prerequisite knowledge. This course content assumes that a student has learned the topics covered in the prerequisite course. Prerequisite topics are not re-taught in this course.
