Course Overview and Materials
Make reading fun! This course is based on the Alberta curriculum and uses a Balanced Literacy approach to teaching and building literacy skills. You’ll increase your knowledge and skills by focusing on three areas:
Guided Reading: Progressively increase your reading skills based on your current level of knowledge and comfort.
Read-Aloud: You and your parent/guardian or facilitator will share reading popular children’s literature. Literature is selected from a collection of storybooks, print lesson plans, and student lesson workbook pages.
Writing is taught using Essentials in Writing: The focus is on basic grammar and sentences, basic compositions that include quality details, word choice, and sentences. Video instruction is included as well as assignment sheets for practice, review, and application.
PRIMARY STUDENTS: Materials are loaned at no cost, but must be returned at the end of the school year, or the student will be charged replacement costs.
ESA & INTERNATIONAL/OUT-OF-PROVINCE STUDENTS: Fees apply to required materials. Reusable loan materials have a refundable cautionary fee as per our Refund Policy.
