Course Overview
Aboriginal Studies 30 is a provincial course suitable for all students in Alberta schools. Students will gain a greater understanding of the current issues facing Indigenous peoples in Canada and worldwide. The course consists of four themes: Inherent Rights and Self-government, Land Claims, Indigenous Peoples in Canadian Society, and Reconciliation and World Issues. Assessments include assignments, quizzes, discussion forums and a culminating Capstone Project (worth 30% of the Final Course Mark - this major project requires a student to conduct original and local research).
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS recommends a minimum of 50% in the prerequisite course, Aboriginal Studies 20 (not offered by VVS). If you have not completed this course, but have successfully completed Social Studies 20-1 or 20-2, your application will be considered.
