Course Overview
Learn about and explore the overarching question "What approved best practices guide horse care and horsemanship?" in Equine 2, written by the Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and offered through Vista Virtual School. This course picks up where Equine 1 leaves off and you will continue to develop and expand practical skills, based on approved practices, for providing the daily care of a horse. There are 5 modules of study:
Responsible Care
Horse Housing
Health and Stress
Breeding Practices and Reproductive Processes
Horse Training Practices
Each student will complete module quizzes and hands-on and theory practice. At the end of the course, there is a final project and a practical skills assessment.
Please note: To register for this course you must have:
completed Agriculture Safety (AGR3000) and Equine 1 (AGR2070)
access to a horse, barn, pastures and a supervisor such as a trainer and a barn manager
a minimum of 50 hours of previous experience handling and caring for a horse
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 50% in the prerequisite course.
