Course Overview and Materials
In this pre-calculus course, you’ll gain the mathematical knowledge and critical thinking skills appropriate for entry into post-secondary programs that are math-intensive and require the study of calculus. Topics of study include trigonometry, transformations, logarithms, function operations, permutations, combinations, and binomial theorem.
The course material is sectioned into 6 units. Each unit contains assignments as well as several practice quizzes. There are 4 supervised tests (Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3/4 and Unit 5/6) and a supervised Final Exam. Students must complete the Final Exam to earn credit for this course.
Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for a final mark to appear on your transcript.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS recommends a minimum of 65% in Mathematics 20-1 or a minimum of 75% in Mathematics 30-2. If a student has not taken the prerequisite course, they are still responsible for ensuring they have the prerequisite knowledge. This course content assumes that a student has learned the topics covered in the prerequisite course. Prerequisite topics are not re-taught in this course.
