Course Overview and Materials
If you are intending to pursue a college diploma program or a technical trades (note that requirements for trades vary, so we recommend that you investigate prior to registering in this course) this is the course for you. In English 30-2, you will explore a variety of texts (visuals, poetry, modern drama, film, and novel). You will also receive lots of instruction and practice writing in a variety of contexts, especially in preparation for the required provincial diploma exam.
There is a supervised midterm and final exam in this course as well as a diploma exam. Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for a final mark to appear on your transcript.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS recommends a minimum of 50% in English 20-2 or 40% in English 20-1. If you did not complete English Language Arts in high school, or it’s been a long time since you’ve taken an English Language Arts class, it’s recommended you begin at the 20-2 level. Please contact the teacher for more guidance as to what the best fit is for your current knowledge and skills.
You are responsible for providing your own copy of the film you wish to study. VVS does not stock films.
