Skills for life! Health 8 involves getting to know your own habits, behaviours, interactions, and decision-making skills related to your health, your well-being, and your future. You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes that might help you understand yourself better, relate better to others, and improve your ability to make informed decisions.
In this course, you’ll apply your learning to your personal life as you deepen your understanding of the following topics:
Career opportunities and life roles
Interpersonal skills
Promoting safety for self and other
Students may also choose to complete Module 7: Human Sexuality, providing they obtain parental permission. The permission form for the Human Sexuality component must be completed by a parent or guardian if the student is less than 16 years of age. In the Human Sexuality Module, you’ll learn to recognize and accept that individuals experience different rates of physical, emotional, sexual, and social development. You’ll learn about the signs, methods, and consequences of various types of abuse. You’ll explore the concept of identity and consider the responsibilities and consequences associated with involvement in a sexual relationship. You will also explore the symptoms, effects, treatments, and prevention for common sexually transmitted disease and learn to identify and describe basic types of contraception.
