Mathematics 30-2
Summer School for Grade 10-12 Students
Summer School for Grade 10-12 Students
Course Overview and Materials
In this course, you’ll gain the mathematical understanding and critical thinking skills appropriate for entry into post-secondary programs that don’t require the study of calculus. Topics of study include set theory, counting methods, probability, rational expressions, polynomial functions, and more. If you’re considering post-secondary fields such as arts, nursing, civil engineering technology, medical technologies, or some apprenticeship programs, this is the math course for you.
The course is sectioned into 4 parts (Unit 1/2, Unit 3/4, Unit 5/6 and Unit 7/8). Each section has an assignment and a supervised test* that are both for marks, as well as mandatory unit practice quizzes that are not for marks and optional lesson practice quizzes that are not for marks.
Math 30-2 units (along with the assignment closing deadlines of 3 pm) include:
Unit 1: Set Theory & Unit 2: Counting Methods - July 4
Unit 3: Probability & Unit 4: Rational Expressions and Equations - July 11
Unit 5: Polynomial Functions & Unit 6: Exponential Functions - July 18
Unit 7: Logarithmic Functions & Unit 8: Sinusoidal Functions - July 25
There are no exemptions or extensions to the assignment closing deadlines.
Due to the short time frame of summer session, expect to be working on the course 5 to 7 hours each day for the month of July. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for an official mark to appear on your transcript.
*Tests are supervised using remote proctoring software called Proctorio. To write a Proctorio supervised test, students must have a computer or laptop with a microphone and a webcam. An external webcam on a stand is preferred as the camera view must show a student from their hands to their head at all times during the assessment.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 55% in Mathematics 20-2 or a minimum of 40% in Mathematics 20-1.
