Mathematics 30-1
Summer School for Grade 10-12 Students
Summer School for Grade 10-12 Students
Course Overview and Materials
In this pre-calculus course, you’ll gain the mathematical knowledge and critical thinking skills appropriate for entry into post-secondary programs that are math-intensive and require the study of calculus. Topics of study include trigonometry, transformations, logarithms, function operations, permutations, combinations, and binomial theorem.
The course is sectioned into 4 parts (Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3/4 and Unit 5/6). Each section has an assignment and a supervised test* that are both for marks, as well as mandatory lesson practice quizzes that are not for marks.
Math 30-1 units (along with the assignment closing deadlines of 3 pm) include:
Unit 1: Functions - July 7
Unit 2: Trigonometry - July 14
Unit 3: Transformations & Unit 4: Logarithms - July 21
Unit 5: Function Operations & Unit 6: Permutations and Combinations - July 25
There are no exemptions or extensions to the assignment closing deadlines.
Due to the short time frame of summer session, expect to be working on the course 5 to 7 hours each day for the month of July. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for an official mark to appear on your transcript.
*Tests are supervised using remote proctoring software called Proctorio. To write a Proctorio supervised test, students must have a computer or laptop with a microphone and a webcam. An external webcam on a stand is preferred as the camera view must show a student from their hands to their head at all times during the assessment.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 70% in Mathematics 20-1 or a minimum of 75% in Mathematics 30-2.
