Course Overview and Materials
This summer school course has 5 units of study, consisting of assignments and quizzes of varying length and type. It is an intense, demanding, and rigorous course as outlined by Alberta Education. Expect to be working on the course 5 to 7 hours each day for the month of July. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
This is the academic English Language Arts course. It is designed for students who are planning to attend post-secondary immediately from High School in the future. Students taking this course will gain a full appreciation of the skills of reading and writing, learn to use language confidently in various situations, and discover the significance and artistry of literature. Texts for the course include short stories, poetry, non-fiction, a modern play, a Shakespearean play excerpt, and a novel. You will also be required to watch a film.
*This course includes supervised assignments and quizzes. Proctorio is required for these supervised assessments. A webcam and microphone are required to complete Proctorio assessments.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 65% in Language Arts 9 or a minimum of 70% in English 10-2. ESL/ELL courses are not equivalent to English 10-2 and are not a prerequisite for English 10-1.
