Course Overview
Dig deeper into the world of crime scene investigation. Learn about forensic anthropology and entomology; forensic toxicology; autopsies; ballistics; police protective equipment; police dogs; arson investigation; criminal profiling; investigation processes; and footwear, tire, and tool mark impressions. You’ll also analyze real-life crime cases, including the Karla Homolka serial killings, the Washington sniper shootings, Clifford Olson, Paul Bernardo, Ted Bundy, Geoffrey Dahmer, the Mayerthorpe quadruple Mountie murder case, the North Hollywood Shootout, the Laci Peterson murder case, the Reena Virk murder case, the Jonestown mass suicide, and the Robert Pickton serial killings.
This course has 45 assessment items: 44 assignments and 1 final exam.
*The final exam will be supervised using Proctorio remote supervision which requires photo ID, a computer with microphone and webcam, and the installation of a Chrome extension.
Students will be provided with a timeline of due dates to follow, with units closing according to those due dates.
Due to the short time frame of the summer session, there can be no extensions to the unit closing dates and students should be committed to working on the course 5 hours per day for the month of July. Vacations or full time jobs should not be taken during this time.
Note: Due to the graphic nature of the course material and its focus on real events, this course may not be suitable for everyone. This course includes descriptions of violent crimes, firearms, and deviant behavior.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 50% in the prerequisite course.
