Summer School for Grade 10-12 Students
Course Overview
CSI anyone? Discover how evidence from crime scenes is gathered and analyzed. Explore the principles behind fingerprinting, breathalyzers, polygraphs, and DNA analysis. Apply what you learn to the analysis of real-life crimes, including the Laci Peterson murder, the infamous John Dillinger case, the Zodiac killer case, the O.J. Simpson case, the Atlanta Child Murders, and the tragic death of Princess Diana.
This course has 31 assessment items: 30 assignments and 1 final exam.
*The final exam will be supervised using Proctorio remote supervision which requires photo ID, a computer with microphone and webcam, and the installation of a Chrome extension.
Students will be provided with a timeline of due dates to follow, with modules closing according to those due dates.
Due to the short time frame of the summer session, there can be no extensions to the module closing dates and students should be committed to working on the course 3 hours per day for the month of July. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
Note: Due to the graphic nature of the course material and its focus on real events, this course may not be suitable for everyone. This course includes discussions about substance abuse, rape, and semen analysis. It also involves experiments using simulated blood made from household materials.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 50% in the prerequisite course.
