Summer School for Adult Learners and International Students
Course Overview and Materials
This summer school course has 6 units of study. It is an intense, demanding, and rigorous course as outlined by Alberta Education. Expect to be working on the course 5 to 7 hours each day for the month of July. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
To what extent should we embrace an ideology? This question will guide you as you explore what an ideology is, and how it forms. You’ll also consider issues such as the relationship between identity and ideology as you investigate liberalism and the values attached to it and explore your personal rights, roles, and responsibilities as a citizen. This is the third and final course in the stream for students who want to achieve the basic Social Studies requirements.
*The course includes a number of timed and Proctorio supervised assessments, including a course final exam, that require students to have a working webcam and microphone, along with a table or desk where they can complete their work.
Students must write both the supervised final exam in this course as well as a diploma exam. Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for a final mark to appear on your transcript.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 50% in Social Studies 20-2 or 40% in Social Studies 20-1.
