Summer School for Adult Learners and International Students
Summer School for Adult Learners and International Students
Course Overview and Materials
Social 30-1 is an intense, demanding, and rigorous course as outlined by Alberta Education. This summer school course has 6 units of study. Students can expect to be working on the course 5 to 7 hours each day for the month of July. This course is paced. This means that there are due dates to follow and assessments close once the due date passes. Vacations or full-time jobs should not be taken during this time.
In this course, students will understand, assess and respond to the complexities of ideologies by exploring the key issue, to what extent should we embrace an ideology?
*The course includes a number of timed Proctorio supervised assessments that require students to have a working webcam and microphone, along with a table or desk where they can complete their work. It is your responsibility to have the required technology to use our remote supervision software.
A textbook, Perspectives on Ideology, is required and must be ordered from Vista Virtual at the time of registration. It is needed for one of the first assessments. No online textbooks are acceptable, as you require a hard copy of the textbook to write the Proctorio assessments.
AI use is considered plagiarism and will not be tolerated. There are a variety of AI detection tools in the course which flag the teacher of plagiarism.
Students must write both the supervised final exam in this course as well as a diploma exam. Both the course mark and diploma exam mark are required for a final mark to appear on your transcript. It is up to the student to register for the diploma exam.
In order for a student to be successful in this course, VVS requires a minimum of 65% in Social Studies 20-1 or a minimum of 60% in Social Studies 30-2. Only one prerequisite course is required.
