Reading:

Yesterday, we worked on using different strategies to figure out how to read tricky, new words. Those are great tricks to use while reading now and any time you read a book. Today, we are going to focus on how to use the text to help us figure out the meaning of a word we don’t know. Watch how I do it here.

Now, it’s your turn. Try this trick while you are reading. Stop and jot new words and their meaning down on a post-it!

Writing:

Today we will beginning to draft a new chapter! Look back at the list you made when we started this unit. Choose another topic that you have notes on to write about today. Today's goal is to try all the topic sentence strategies to see how you want to start this chapter. Then, write your best topic sentence down a new piece of paper to begin your next chapter.

Here is a video on today's writing lesson: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UvwhD_nodCtogoCq32shvy6_4YuioMjZ/view?usp=sharing

When writers start a chapter, they should begin with a topic sentence that names the subject and interests the reader:

    • Start with a sound word

    • Ask the reader a question

    • Jump right in with an interesting or surprising fact

You can use the suggested paper or any paper you have at home. Here are some paper choices that may be helpful to you:
