We have been gathering a lot of information all about Ancient Egypt and you are doing a wonderful job. Did you ever feel like you were reading something without truly understanding what you were reading? Today, I am going to teach you how to help yourself to understand and retell what you are reading so that the information means more to you. Here is how I do it…
First, I read as much as I can cover with my hand or a post it.
Then, I cover it with my hand or a post it.
After, I try to remember what I just read.
Finally, I try to retell what I just read in my own words. If you need to peek, that’s okay!
You will know that you understand the text, if you can retell that part in your own words. Go back and reread the text if you aren’t sure or forgot some things! Watch how I do it here on this video!
Now it’s your turn. Try to retell 3-5 sections of your book! You can do this activity with a sibling, parent, friend on video chat, or with a stuffed animal/pet!
