We are going to continue learning about antonyms! Remember, antonyms are words that have opposite meanings!
Please go onto your IXL account and complete IXL lessons HH3 and HH5.
(Click the "Learning" tab, then choose "Language Arts" and select 2nd grade.)
You will notice that there are a lot of (pictures, diagrams, maps, charts and illustrations) in the non-fiction books you are reading. These images are just as important as the words but sometimes, we aren’t sure how to use these images to help us to learn more about the topic we are reading about.
Watch this video below to see how I take images from the book and make them come to life.
Find an image.
Read the caption
Describe the image in your own words.
Now, use your senses to describe the picture
What do you
see:
hear:
smell:
feel:

Try to describe the image again using all of these descriptions.

Please repeat yesterday’s lesson but this time choose a different book from your favorite book list to review.
The Book Review Template can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BrJAfObxp5tffEpcd99V4nnRCk4Q7jGC/view?usp=sharing
If you are not able to print it, please make something similar on any paper you have available.
First, write the title of your book. Remember, all titles begin with capital letters. For example: Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems. Notice how all the words start with a capital letter. Also, notice how small words in the middle of the title like “the” don’t need a capital letter.
Then, give your book a score up to 10.
Next, draw a picture that represents your story. For example, if I was reviewing the book Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus I might draw the pigeon next to the bus.
After that, you will give a brief retell of the book without the ending. Use details from the book and if there are characters, include their names. Think of this like a movie trailer. In a movie trailer they would never spoil the ending.
You will write a few sentences telling what you liked or didn’t like about the book. Be specific! Use details from the book!
Finally, you will decide who to recommend this book to and why. For example: I recommend this book to all kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders because they will laugh at how ridiculous the pigeon is. They will enjoy the persuasive pigeon who just wants to drive a bus.
