Resources: Opinion Planning Paper or Lined Paper
Lesson: Writers organize their thoughts on their opinion by using an organizer.
Please see the “Opinion Planning” paper for reference (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1G6NAQUlbPz_DaBbIeFplA2mWNWVkBG_j/view?usp=sharing). If you are not able to print this paper, please just organize a plain paper like this to help your child.
Writers take one idea from either of their lists that they want to write about. They will support their opinion with reasons and examples.
Example:
My Opinion (Main Idea):
In my opinion, writing is the best subject.
Reason #1 (detail):
My first reason is, writing is fun! Using your imagination in writing makes it so much fun. I can create anything. For example, I can even make a story about a monster who goes to space.
Reason #2 (detail):
Another reason is, writing is a great way to put your thoughts into words. Writing in a journal is a great way for me to reflect on my day and set goals. One example of this is, I can write down all that I did today and set a goal for tomorrow. If I reach my goal, I can write about it the next time I write in my journal.
Reason #3 (detail):
My final reason is, writing is a great way to communicate. I can write my family and friends letters. This is a great way to enjoy writing.
Ending Sentence:
Now you know why I think writing is the best subject!

Lesson: Practice consequential thinking and using your imagination.
Today we will be using our imagination to think about what might happen in a variety of unusual situations.
Activity: Read these “what if” statements below and think of a positive outcome for each. Also, think of what the challenges might be for each.
What might happen if:
People could fly?
Animals could talk?
People suddenly grew 12 feet high?
People could live underwater?
People were as small as ants?
Choose your favorite “what if” situation and create a picture to illustrate your ideas.
