Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop
Word Games pg. 157
Yesterday, we read a nonfiction book all about Egypt. We looked for different text features. We saw photos, table of contents, captions, bold words, and so much more. Today we are going to read the text again but this time look through the lens of what is popping out at us. For example, on page 12, there is a picture of The Great Sphinx. In the text it says The Sphinx guards all of the pyramids. That was something that popped out to me!
What are some things that pop out to you? In your reading notebook, jot down a few (3 to 5 or more) things that popped out to you!
Resources: Opinion Planning Paper or Lined Paper
Lesson: Writers organize their thoughts on their opinion by using an organizer.
Please see the “Opinion Planning” paper for reference (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1G6NAQUlbPz_DaBbIeFplA2mWNWVkBG_j/view?usp=sharing). If you are not able to print this paper, please just organize a plain paper like this to help your child.
Writers take a different idea from either of their lists that they want to write about. They will support their opinion with reasons and examples.
This is just like yesterday’s lesson but each child will choose a different topic from their list.

Instructions: Watch the YouTube read aloud of the picture book The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires.
Now think about something that you’ve tried to build or create that didn’t work the first time you tried it. How did you feel? How did you learn to do it? Did you practice? Did you ask someone for hel
There is an old saying by Thomas Palmer, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Sometimes things don’t work out the way we plan them. Sometimes we have to walk away from something we’re working on and come back to it later like the little girl in the book The Most Magnificent Thing.
What I Would Like You To Do:
In your notebook or on a piece of paper draw a picture of something you couldn't build or create the first time you tried.
For example, build a Lego car or draw a dragon
How did you eventually learn how to do it? Write a sentence telling me how at the bottom of your picture.
For example, “I took it apart and added new parts.” or “I looked at a picture of a dragon and saw what I was missing.”
When you are done please put your picture with your sentence in your school folder to hand in at a later date.
