The more that users (including students) understand how AI works (making predictions of what it thinks the answer should be based on the content loaded by the company that owns it and other learning) the less likely they are to rely on using AI to replace their learning.
This related article, How AI Literacy Shapes GenAI Use, discusses how prompt fluency and output literacy are both important.
"In our research, two distinct capabilities shaped people’s success when using genAI for information seeking.
Prompt fluency: The ability to communicate intent, constraints, and context so that genAI can produce useful outputs.
Output literacy: The ability to evaluate genAI outputs --- for example, spotting gaps or misunderstandings, noticing potential hallucinations, seeking sources, and crosschecking when accuracy matters."
"...expert users in our study often checked AI’s responses by asking clarification questions or crosschecking results on different sites and through search engines."
As educators, we cannot ignore generative AI. It's here to stay. The more we educate ourselves and our students about how it actually works, it's not "magic" and it's definitely not always correct, and about how to better prompt, the better off our students will be when they leave us for the workforce.
In case you missed it in The Beat - March 24, 2026, Frisco ISD is moving to Apptegy for all external District and campus communications.
The reason: The annual District surveys show parents want consistency in school communications.
Apptegy consolidates many of the tools we are currently using into one spot.
What does this mean for you?
Apptegy will replace:
Smore
SchoolMessenger
Remind101
other messaging apps
The District and campuses will also have new websites.
Workvivo is still our internal communication platform, and that’s not changing.

At the CTE Center, Trinity Oliver's Survey of Education students are creating a profile of a teacher. One part of the assignment is to create an avatar of this made-up teacher. Students are using Canva's Magic Media to create the avatars! Magic Media can create images, videos, and now 3D images!
Reach out if you would like to see how Canva's Magic Media could be used to enhance your class!
When adding the LockDown Browser to a Canvas quiz (new or classic), make sure to open Advanced Settings and select "Lock students into the browser until exam is completed"! This keeps students from leaving the quiz before they finish.
If you want, you can add a password that YOU can type in on their screen if they need to leave before finishing. Ex: go to nurse, called to go home, etc.

We recently learned that NotebookLM beta creations (currently slide deck and infographic) don't appear for students when a Notebook is shared through Canvas. While those creation types are still in beta, download then upload into Canvas to share with students. Unfortunately, this loses the direct interactivity with the Notebook's chat but students can still use them as an independent resource. Once they are no longer in Beta, they will show up for students.
