ACTION ITEM: Canvas Semester Switch Recap

ALL teachers must address their Canvas courses for the Semester switch! For more information, revist last week's Tech Update:

Check Canvas course settings for all of your courses! Check past courses, if needed.

• Canvas- Recommended Settings 

  • If course visibility is "institution", all FISD staff and students, can access the course

  • If the box to "Restrict students from viewing this course after term end date" is not checked, past students retain access to the course, even if it is concluded

Switch to Yearly summary:

• Cross-list all S2 sections into Sem1 course(s)

  • Do NOT extend S1 section end dates; switch to use S2 sections starting in January

• Submit this form to convert Sem1 course into Yearly term

• Double-check that all past assignments have due dates

Keep S1/S2 separate summary:

• Copy S1 content into your empty S2 course (Blueprint users= skip because content syncs from the Blueprint)

• Unpublish all S1 assignments

• Delete old announcements

• Add another teacher as Designer for emergency access to your S2 course

• Cross-list S2 sections (SpEd, different years, etc)

• Set up DAEP sections, if needed

• Publish S2 courses by Mon, Jan 5

Blueprint summary:

• Unpublish all Assignments in the Blueprint

• Delete old announcements in the Blueprint

• Follow directions listed above for Yearly or S1/S2 separate

• The Blueprint should already be associated with your S1, S2, and/or Yearly course(s)

• If using separate S1/S2, if the Teacher Info page contents are not in the S2 course, see me.
