In case you missed it in Sunday's Staff Update, we are in need of 2-4 staff members to help out with device collection each period on Tue, May 13 & Wed, May 14. Volunteers would see that the Chromebook is working, fill in a short Google form, and place the device and charger in a box. Currently we need support during 2A, 3A, 4A, 1B, 2B, 3B.
👉🏽If you are able to help out, please email Penney Matos with the period(s) you are available.
If your last password reset was over last summer, it is highly recommended that you proactively change it before school is out. Staff password change directions. As a reminder, you are required to change your FISD password every 365 days.
Great things are happening in Titan Nation!
Mike Hirsh recently met with Dr. Turner and me to find a way to make Unit 1 more engaging for AP Econ students in the fall. Our collaboration led to integrating real-world information about countries from around the globe as students learn basic economic concepts that provide the basis of understanding for the rest of the course. We look forward to seeing how this enhances students' engagement and understanding in the fall!
As part of reviewing for their coming AP exam, Physics students are creating a unit of study for classmates to use including a Google forms branching quiz, an interactive learning experience, and a video tutorial over their selected topic. AP Physics teachers (Kristin Gonzales-Vega & Justin Szela) and I worked together to update an older assignment to include currently accessible options for students to use. "Interactive learning experience" options include creating a scavenger hunt, a digital breakout, a card sort, and more! I provided student resources and supports for the available digital options.
Jeanette Blair's English 3 students are using a SchoolAI space to support them in developing quality questions for a Socratic seminar. The space is set up to guide students with prompting questions to develop their own Socratic seminar questions without creating the questions for them or providing answers to the questions they develop.
Shannon Rosenfeld reached out for a brainstorming partner to help develop an assignment that would be engaging and encompass what students have learned so far this year. Mexican American Studies students will be creating a collaborative recipe book in Canva that includes not only recipes but stories and information about how the recipes relates to content they learned this year.
World Geo teachers (Kevin Hunt & John Robbins) revamped a poster assignment to include a digital option too. I created an image frame in the shape of Africa in Canva for their students to insert their image collage. Students will have the option to create their poster digitally or on paper.
If you are interested in collaborating, please reach out to your CHS Instructional Support team (Nicole Ellis, Dr. Teddi Martin, Penney Matos, and Dr. Tammy Turner)!

Can't draw? I can't either! But I can use AutoDraw!
Users can create clip art graphics from scratch with AI assistance
AutoDraw tries to recognize what you're attempting to sketch and generates options for you to select from based on progress in your sketch.
Cultivate registration is open now through Friday, May 23! Pheeploop registration directions.
On Tue, July 15, I'm presenting Differentiation in Canvas with Mastery Paths and Immediate Feedback with AI (similar to sessions on Oct 11 & Jan 6). Mastery Paths are NOT related to MasteryConnect (assessment tool) or to Mastery Learning (for students who fail a quarter). So many "mastery" things can be quite confusing! I highly recommend learning about Mastery Paths in Canvas, if you haven't already. They're a wonderful way use Canvas to differentiate for your students. I hope to see you there!
Learn how to set up and use Mastery Paths in Canvas for differentiation! Teachers can set 2 or 3 different learning paths based on students' scores on a Canvas Quiz or Assessment. Learn all the ins and outs and what to consider when setting up a Canvas Mastery Path. Participants will practice setting up a path in their own Canvas accounts!
Instant feedback? AI’s got it. Delayed feedback? AI’s got that too. Teacher feedback? That’s where your expertise turns good into great! This session is for all content areas and most electives too! -- This is the same session offered as an option at CHS on October 11, 2024 & January 6, 2025.
Take a look at your classroom phone. Do you see a circle with a line through it in the top right corner of the display? That means it's in Do Not Disturb mode and sends callers straight to voicemail. This is super helpful during testing situations (like EOC) but not so much for when the office needs to call your classroom. To turn it off, press the mute button.
