This is your reminder to reboot your PC at least once each week!
It's also a refresher of last week's update that we should no longer be turning off PC computers (classroom walls, office desktops, etc)! They need to remain on so they receive updates.
If you are also an FISD parent, your parent Canvas account must be created with your personal email and not your Frisco ISD email address. If your parent account was created with your FISD email address, send me your personal email address and I can fix your account. Using the same email for both accounts can cause various issues including Canvas not sending you email notifications.
If a parent or student needs to translate from Chrome, one way is to:
Select and right-click on the text.
Select Translate selection to [language].
If needed, click the 3 dots to change language.
** Note: Keep in mind that after our students have been in country for a while, they should be translating occasionally, not entire works.

More of the older Chromebooks are being deprovisioned. They no longer receive updates and have become incompatible with our filtering system. If you have an older Chromebook, please drop it by Rachael Lopez's desk in B100 for recycling. All students are now eligible for the 1 for All program. The Technology Department is not replacing old campus purchased Chromebooks.
Models being deprovisioned:
Samsung 2 (used at CHS)
Samsung 3 (used at CHS)
Samsung Chromebook Plus
HP 5 (used at CHS)
Lenovo N42 Chromebook
Acer Chromebook 15
Acer Chromebook Tab 10
Note: Teacher Chromebooks are Asus. Student Chromebooks are Dell 3100 2-in-1 and Dell 3110 2-in-1. These are NOT being deprovisioned.
I love Canva and all of the amazing posters, presentations, flipbooks, videos, and much more that you can create with it! Today I'd like to highlight some of the fun fonts and font related resources that they have available for you and your students to use!
All of these and much more are located in Canva's Design Inspiration gallery!

I recently worked with English PLCs and with Dr. Eyanagho (Science) to create resources for their students to reference when creating products. All of the options are on the FriscoISD Approved Applications list and I included links to online help and templates, when possible.
If you would like a similar resource for your assignment, please let reach out! I will find Approved Applications that fit your expectations and locate help and other resources for the sites!

Since Quizlet added student data tracking and, therefore, was removed from the list of FISD Approved apps for students a while back, StudyMate is your best replacement! StudyMate is an online flashcard/quiz resource with up to 11 available games! Teachers and/or students can create card sets. Teachers can share these sets with students for practice! Through Canvas, you can assign creating sets or practicing shared sets! See Penney Matos for help!
Digital Melting Pot: StudyMate
As you have noticed, this year the (S) sections in eSchool and Canvas include both modified and non-modified SpEd students. If you would like to give a modified Canvas assessment only to the modified students and not the entire (S) section, you have 3 options.
Option 1: Create and maintain teacher-created Canvas sections. Use these sections (instead of the SIS created SpEd sections) to assign the correct assessment for modified and non-modified SpEd students. This is the recommended option.
Option 2: When assigning assessments, assign the regular assessment to the on-level section and manually type in the names of the SpEd students who will take it. Assign the modified assessment by manually typing in the modified students' names.
Option 3: Assign the regular assessment to the (S) section and the modified assessment to modified students individually by name or to a teacher-created Modified section. Then go to the Gradebook and mark the regular assessment "exempt" for the modified students. This is not the best option because:
If the modified student clicks on the assessment, they do not see that it's exempt and may take it mistakenly.
If students click on Assignments or Grades they will see "Exempt" or "EX/100" but they still have access to the assessment.

Notable Updates
Outcomes have a new calculation option - Decaying Average <-- If you want to change the way Outcomes calculate (or the levels of mastery), contact me!
In Pages, when editing a page title, all links to that page automatically update in a course or and the old URL acts as an alias for the new page. <-- Very exciting!
In New Quizzes, instructure can allow students to build on their last attempt of a quiz by reattempting incorrectly answered questions.
In New Quizzes, instructor access to Item Analysis reports is faster.
Instructors can export New Quizzes from the Build page and new Export Page into a QTI file.
The Share Item Bank with Course checkbox is added in the Item Bank page when creating a new Item Bank, as well as existing Item Banks. Additionally, instructors can view when an Item Bank is already shared with a course.
The Assignment Enhancements - Students is a feature option that teachers can turn on in their courses. This short video will show you some highlights. It's worth checking out!
