School AI

School AI wasn't in the Feb 16th presentation but is definitely worth your time! For your first interaction, I recommend checking out Spaces. Teachers set up a "space" with details of what you'd like students to learn about. Students join with a code, enter their name, then interact with the AI chatbot. If they ask off task questions, it redirects them back on topic! While students interact, the teacher can see what they type, and School AI gives the teacher a summary of their questioning.

Viewing Absences in eSchool

Spring is approaching and we all know that means lots of kids will be absent on various days for school events. To see who will be out...

1) Attendance Bulletin (today or past 5 school days)

From the navigation across the top, select Attendance --> Bulletin.
Select an attendance date (select from today or the past 5 school days)
Select which students and which attendance to include
Click the Refresh Bulletin button

2) Absence Indicator in Gradebook Entry (dates with an assignment due)

- If an assignment is due on the date you're inquiring about, turn on Attendance indicators. Make sure assignments are due on A/B days correctly.
- Handout: eSchool- Using Indicators
- Tip: To see scheduled absences for a future date, add an assignment due on that future date and do not publish the assignment. Turn on indicators. When done, delete the unneeded assignment.

Gale Databases in Canvas

Gale Databases are now available in Canvas course navigation. To add to your course, Settings --> Navigation. Locate the database in the bottom box and drag it to the top box on the page. Scroll to the bottom and SAVE.
