If you submit an Approval ticket (see the Titan Staff Update on Oct. 28 for more info) and don't hear back within a day or so, please send a friendly reminder to the approver asking them to take a look in Incident IQ for your request. If we find tickets going thru the wrong approval process, reach out to me (Penney Matos) and we'll submit a ticket to fix the workflow.
Soon, I'll have more information about how you can set up your own view in IIQ to see your closed approval requests and other tickets.
While Snorkl's library includes mostly elementary and middle school lessons, Snorkl can handle upper level courses!
AP Physics (Kristin Gonzales-Vega & Justin Szela) are currently using Snorkl for students to receive immediate feedback as they learn new concepts; projectile motion and systems & Newton's 3rd Law. Initial impressions are that the feedback is accurate and students find it beneficial. They also noticed that the processing time does vary.
Reminder: Snorkl relies on students recording themselves talking through their thought process. The video recording is transcribed by Snorkl as it processes for targeted feedback. FISD Curriculum directors prefer that Snorkl be used as part of the learning experience and not a graded assessment.
If students are making a copy of your Google Doc, Slides, or Sheets and turning it in, use Google Assignments LTI 1.3!!! Google Assignments LTI 1.3 automatically (1) makes a new copy for each student as soon as they open it, (2) gives you editing rights to their document so you can see their file as they work, and (3) attaches it to the Canvas assignment for easy student submission.
Reach out to Penney Matos for more support.
Last week I was notified of an instance at CHS where a student casted from their device to a teacher's computer without the teacher's prior knowledge. Make sure you have changed the settings in Mirroring360 for both your login AND for the sub login (found here)for any classroom PCs that you use.
If you log in on a new PC (Learning Lab, ISS, a partner teacher's room, etc) change the setting for your login on that computer too.
These settings are per user per computer.
We have been selected to test out Canvas's new Media Recorder! On Monday, November 11th, CHS courses will switch to the new media player. If you have students submit a Media Recording or watch a video shared through the media upload starting Mon, Nov. 11, please let me know so I can check it out in action! If you find features that you like or dislike about it, send your feedback my way!
Improved Accessibility: Better support for captions and keyboard navigation
Auto-Captioning: We will dot the i's and cross the t's with auto-captioning all Canvas media
Adaptive Streaming: Seamless playback adjusted to the learner’s device and bandwidth for uninterrupted learning experience
In the past, the district loaded student accommodations into Aware testing. For various reasons, this has been discontinued. If you are giving a District Snapshot, TIA test, or other district test using Aware, YOU must check your students' accommodations and make needed adjustments for each assessment. Teacher Directions on Page 1.
If you find a student currently has an accommodation listed in Aware that is no longer in their IEP/504/ESL paperwork, reach out to Elva Shu (for ESL), Lyndsay Collins (for 504), Sarah Petelik, your IC, or the student's counselor to get it removed.
You are responsible to add any accommodations that are missing for each student for each testing administration. Teacher added accommodations do not "stick" for future assessments.
NotebookLM is a tool that helps you understand complex information. Upload your sources and it will create an expert that can answer questions based on your material. You can choose to create:
Study guides (with short answer questions, answers, and a glossary of important terms)
FAQs (frequently asked questions)
Table of contents (to help you navigate the source)
Timeline (to sequence by time/date)
Briefing document (main theme, most important ideas, conclusion)
Now, you can also listen to a conversation between two AI hosts discussing your sources. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for student learning, including:
Boosting comprehension
Sparking engagement
You can also choose to chat with your sources! The chat is like having a conversation with an expert about your sources. You can ask it for anything. Here's just a quick brainstorm ...
Ask it for answers to quick questions.
Ask it to summarize, prioritize, or rank.
Ask it to identify gaps or missing elements.
Ask it for next steps.
Currently NotebookLM reads content from:
Upload - PDF, .txt. Markdown, Audio (ex. mp3)
Google Drive - Slides & Docs
Link - Website & YouTube
Pasted text

Note: Because of NotebookLM's age 18+ limitation, it is not available for students. You can share your creations with students!
