When a new student enrolls, an overnight sync is required to create their account in our systems (HAC, Google, Canvas, etc). Canvas requires an additional overnight sync to enroll the newly created student account in their classes. If you have a new student who is not in your Canvas course, after the first overnight sync has created their account, you can manually add them through People in the course navigation.
If your PLC is discussing alternative assessment methods, student projects, students working collaboratively using technology, etc, please reach out so I know to prioritize your PLC on my schedule. Thanks!
ALL TEACHERS need to watch this presentation on Differentiation Tags in Canvas! Besides the suggestions mentioned in the presentation, what other ways can you think of to use tags?
Snorkl is an amazing AI feedback tool, especially for math, science, world languages, and more! Students record themselves talking through the thought process as they solve problems or answer questions. Snorkl then transcribes the video and pinpoints feedback to specific parts of their video.
🤿 Try Snorkl premium for free thru January — Use this link to try this powerful tool that gets students talking and demonstrating to show learning.

Recently Google opened NotebookLM access for high school students. This is exciting!
NotebookLM offers high school students functionality as a dynamic AI research and writing assistant, transforming source materials into personalized study aids like summaries, study guides, and flashcards. It functions as a personal "thought partner", allowing students to ask questions, get explanations with citations, and explore connections between their uploaded documents, including PDFs, Google Docs, and videos. This tool helps students grasp complex content by providing tailored feedback, engaging discussions, and accessible learning materials in formats like audio overviews, making rigorous academic material more understandable and manageable.
Thanks to Google's Gemini for that concise summary of NotebookLM functionality for HS students.

We have learned that some students are using Remind.com to message friends during class. To stop this from happening during class, in Lightspeed Classroom Relay, create a Block List and add "http://remind.com" to your list. The next time students are using Chromebooks in your class, use Ad Hoc to start a session and turn on the Block list. Block lists are preferred over Allow lists because of the likelihood of a website redirecting content through another server that could get blocked from an allow list.
I recently learned how to use ChatGPT to convert a list of questions (from an AI chat, PDF file, Word doc, and more) to a file that can be imported into Canvas as a Classic Quiz and/or New Quiz. It’s a multi-step process but if you're up for the challenge, here are directions. If you would like for me to walk you through the process, just reach out!
If you see inactive students in Speedgrader, please click on the cogwheel icon on the top left hand side and select options then select "Show old Speed Grader UI" then hit save. Until Canvas fixes the issue, you can use the old version of Speedgrader to hide inactive students.
