Mission: Our mission is to provide exemplary early care and education through the use of early childhood best practices within a safe and caring environment.
Clientele: UW Oshkosh students, faculty, staff, Oshkosh Area School District and Oshkosh community.
Services: We provide child care for University students, staff, faculty and Oshkosh community members. We also collaborate with the OASD to provide integrated Ready 4 Learning (4 year old kindergarten), Ready 4 Learning & integrated 3's early childhood classes.
Internship Description (120 Hours): the students will observe/question/research to gain knowledge about:
• student child care aides – interactions with children, coworkers, staff
• student orientation session, SIDS, SBS
• State Licensing Rules
• AvancEd accreditation
• YoungStar
• Enrollment forms and parent handbook
• Enrollment process
• Arrival and departure staff and parent interaction
• Staff and parent interactions-observe a parent teacher conference
• Create a list of items they would like to know about the teacher’s job responsibilities and interview teacher
• Using assessment tools with children
• The environment, curriculum, discipline and teaching styles in each classroom
• Required office skills – copier, S drive, picture printing
• Ordering supplies, work orders, etc.
• Job descriptions and policies
• Financial aspects – budget, DWD, ACH

After becoming familiar with the Children’s Center, its program and staff, the student will choose an area where she/he would like to spend the rest of her/his placement – a classroom, the office or working on a center project. The student’s responsibilities for each area will be outlined after the course is made.
Advanced Internship Description (280 Hours): In addition, 280-hour students will be required to complete a more in-depth project related to the Children’s Center and its operation. The student will collaborate with the director when choosing this project. They will work together to map a timeline and procedure for completion of the project. A final report or tool which represents the focus and outcome of her/his work will finalize the placement.
