Mission: To provide easy, simple access to health and human services, to give callers an opportunity to give or get help, and to serve as a hub for community information in times of disaster.
Clientele: Any community member.
Services: Assist callers by helping them assess their needs and identify appropriate community-based resources.
Internship Description (120 Hours): United Way 2-1-1 INTERN
Defines callers’ questions or needs through telephone interview and provides appropriate referrals or information. Participates in research and assists in information gathering of new community resources and services. Provides assistance to Information & Referral staff with mailings, updates, materials distribution and special projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains the confidentiality of each caller and Information & Referral as a whole.
2. Assists in taking phone calls, answering questions using information on computer and in other files. When appropriate, refers callers to other agencies or resources to help with their problems. Encourages callers to act upon the information or referral that is provided.
3. Keeps a record of pertinent information on each call. Does follow-up on selected calls.
4. Attends training sessions and interagency meetings.
5. Other responsibilities may include
a. Helping with statistical records or information gathering projects
b. Updating information and data entry
c. Assisting with production of publications
d. Assisting with promotion and public relations
e. Compiling and logging new resources information
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Good communication skills including sensitivity, maturity, composure, empathy, tolerance, flexibility, non-judgmental attitude and dependability
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality
3. Ability to accept directions and work independently
4. Willingness to learn about community resources and to investigate the most appropriate referral for each caller
