Mission: The mission of OSC is to enrich the quality of life for adults age 50 and older.

Clientele: The Oshkosh Seniors Center (OSC) has been providing services to the City of Oshkosh for nearly 40 years to individuals 50 and older.

Services: Programming is based around the Seven Dimensions of Wellness (social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical, environmental and occupational) to promote positive attitudes towards aging and a high quality of life for adults in the City of Oshkosh and surrounding communities. The variety of programming provides a well-rounded approach to address the needs of adults 50+ in our community. Programs, activities and services include: exercise/fitness, woodworking, arts, educational sessions, computer classes, nailcare, language arts, chorus, support groups, and on-site adult day services and counseling provided by Lutheran Social Services. Advocap also provides a nutrition site five days a week.

Please note: An additional agreement between the student and the City of Oshkosh is required.

Internship Description (120 Hours):

Administration

• Attend staff, OSC Advisory Board and Friends of the Oshkosh Seniors Center Board meetings.

• Become familiar with office and customer service procedures.

• Meet with OSC staff

• Learn and utilize of Schedules Plus software programs.

• Policy and procedures development and implementation.

• Standard of Work process.

• City budget process.

• Fee analysis.

• Mock interview.

• Attend nutrition site

• Observe in Lutheran Social Services Adult Day Services

• Become familiar with office and customer service procedures during 2-4 hour shift a front desk every other week

Programming

• Plan, implement and lead new OSC program/activity.

• Supervision of ongoing programs/activities.

• Public relations with participants; in person and on the phone.

• Participate in and assist in OSC programs (daily, weekly, monthly).

• Development and implementation of program evaluation.

• Assist with planning and implementation of special events.

• Evaluation and surveys of OSC programs and facilities.

Fund Development/Marketing

• Evaluation and surveys of OSC programs and facilities.

• Assist in grant development.

• Write and submit press release.

• Website development.

• Marketing and involvement with special events.

• Creation of facility brochures.

• Assist with monthly newsletter, The Current.

• Observe Senior Savvy/learn camera work/interview skills

• Social media marketing.

Volunteer Management

• Assist in volunteer recruitment.

• Screen, select and match volunteers to OSC needs.

• Participate in front desk volunteer training session.

• Develop and implement volunteer satisfaction survey.

• Create volunteer motivation and recognition program.

• Assist with preparation of OSC Volunteer Recognition Banquet.

• Schedule volunteers to fill various needs.

• Participate in the newsletter process.

• Represent the Oshkosh Seniors Center at volunteer recruitment events.

• Create brochures/rack cards and materials for recruitment.

• Take photos/video of volunteers in action throughout the center.

• Compile media shows that feature volunteers.

Fitness/Wellness

• Creation and implementation of fitness/wellness initiatives for Fox Fitness Center and OSC exercise classes.

• Participate in OSC exercise class.

• Develop, implement and collect fitness/wellness evaluation/survey.

• Research community fitness/wellness initiatives throughout the country.

• Development of future OSC fitness/wellness initiatives.

• Participate in Exercise Basics class, Fitness Assessment and equipment training.
