Services: Ascension Mercy Hospital proudly serves the Oshkosh community with a history of more than a century of quality care. Our facility provides total healthcare and surgical services, as well as many medical specialties such as cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, intensive care, pulmonary, general surgery, obstetrics, adult and geriatric behavioral health, and neurosurgery. Mercy is the home of the Kennedy Center for the Hip and Knee, a nationally-recognized program for hip and knee replacement.

Internship Description (120 Hours):

3 areas potentially available for placement:

VOLUNTEER SERVICES - To provide college field placement student volunteers with a realistic view of the hospital volunteer service functions, and provide a variety of observation and learning experiences.

1. Become aware of total volunteer program at Mercy Hospital and how it supplements staff

2. Volunteer recruitment - staff recruitment fairs

3. Assist with the onboarding of new volunteers

4. Interview new volunteers and write a “volunteer spotlight” article for newsletter

5. Attend hospital/community meetings/events as appropriate

6. Assist in event planning and fundraising events

7. Shadow in a variety of volunteer assignment areas

8. Provide clerical and data entry support

MERCY HEALTH FOUNDATION

To provide college student volunteer field placement student volunteers with a realistic view of hospital-based Foundation functions and provide a variety of hands on experiences.

1. Assist Foundation staff with assigned projects or events.

2. Write articles for newsletters or help in grant writing.

3. Shadow and meet with representatives of other business entities within Ascension.

4. Attend hospital/community meetings/events as appropriate.

5. Complete assigned projects

PATIENT ACCESS DEPARTMENT

To provide college student volunteers field placement student volunteers with a realistic view of the hospital volunteer service functions, and provide a variety of observation and learning experiences as able:

1. Information Desks (Main gateway to the hospital open 24 hrs a day manned 16 hrs)

2. Outpatient Testing (Lab, radiology open 16 hrs)

3. Registration (open 24 hrs ER/Board Room/Registration Office visits)

4. Cashier’s Office (Open 8-3 M-F)

5. Benefits and Eligibility Office (Open 7-3 M-F)

6. Central Scheduling (St. E’s M-F 7-5)

7. Compliment depts. at St. E’s (same hours)

8. Management Observation Experience (will vary depending on participant)

a. Director/Manager/Coordinator b. CEO, VP Nursing & Operations (if available)

9. Enroll patients in the Hospital Electronic Medical Health Record

Advanced Internship Description (280 Hours):

Project Lead in Enrolling patient in Hospital Electronic Medical Health Record
