Mission: To promote nutrition in children of families using the pantry, educate and empower dietary choices, and to encourage appropriate serving sizes to foster a healthier life.

Clientele: Children of OACP patrons, under the age of 16.

Services: To educate children about healthy eating habits and provide a program that allows children to sample foods they would not otherwise consider.

Internship Description (120 Hours): Registration, Checkout, General Operations, and Food4Kids Programs

OACP Kids Corner Coordinator

Operational Duties:

Set up and take down Kids Corner

• Choose and stock items for that day

• Set up any taste testing

o Sanitize bench, wash hands, wear apron, gloves and hairnet to prep

• Set up educational message for the day

o Write information or specials on chalk board

• Prep log sheet for logging weights

• Create list of foods available that day for reporting purposes

Assist children, under the age of 16, to choose fruits, veggies, snacks, proteins, and dairy from the Kids Corner

• Ask parents about any possible allergies

• Children will be allotted a certain number of items-help them to keep track

• Once collected in bag, weigh items, record weight, and secure bag

• Teach “Fact of the Day” for child to share with parent

• Perform any taste testing

Return child to their parent

• Ask the parent to keep the bag out of the cart at final weigh out

• Complete surveys for the Kids Corner

Administrative Duties:

• Record data into Salesforce.com and any other tracking databases

• Create an ordering spreadsheet to track inventory

• Order additional product as needed

 Work with pantry coordinator to schedule pickups

• Contact schools and offer this service as well as tours of the pantry

• Planning, outreach, and working at mobile school pantries

• Initiate contact to the families in the Food 4 Kidz Backpack Program

 Assess barriers to becoming a pantry member

 Encourage parents to shop monthly at the pantry, and to bring their children in to use the Kids Corner

• Research and develop kid-friendly nutrition information to use monthly in the Kids Corner

 This can be done in partnership with UW Extension Nutrition Program

• Research and apply for grants to support the funding of the Kids Corner
