Mission: Day by Day Warming Shelter collaboratively provides temporary shelter, individualized services, and opportunities for self-sufficiency to empower the most vulnerable adults in our community.

Clientele: We serve men and woman over the age of 18 who are experiencing hopelessness.

Services: Basic needs. Shelter, evening meals, showers, hygiene supplies & other basic necessities, access to community resources.

Internship Description (120 Hours): Student must be available for initial training the first two weeks of September or make subsequent arrangements.

Fall semester: Fall start in September.

Spring semester: An early start date will be allowed. This may result in a shorter time frame to complete hours (through end of April) though this is dependent on the individual circumstances. Please contact the field office directly for additional information.

Involves direct service with our guests. Those responsibilities are as follows:

Direct client contact- opportunities to assist in volunteer shifts to work one on one with current shelter guests. Opportunities to shadow our Operations Manager and learn about DBD's Resource Coordination program, assist with shelter guest intakes, and other duties assigned.

Gain experience with different fundraising and marketing techniques. This can include but is not limited to working fundraising events such as the chili cook off, stuff the shelter, or experiencing planning stages of major fundraisers such as the annual style show. These experiences gained will be valuable transferable skills that I can use in future professions. Assist with donation tracking.

Observe and follow all program policies and procedures according to the Operations Manual. Specific duties are assigned based on skill.

Characteristics required are flexibility, ability to work independently, openness to a diverse population, willingness to be part of a team effort & do what is needed for the success of the shelter & our guests.

Learn about and network with other agencies that collaborate, interact with, and help to benefit the shelter. Participate in collaborative events and network opportunities. Work on special projects that may directly impact the agency. Help the agency to find better ways to carry out tasks. Ability to work with staff to develop new programming opportunities.

Leadership Experience: The student will gain leadership experience through hands on learning and the ability to be mentored by both the Assistant and Executive Directors. Both directors have many years of experience working in the non-profit sector and are willing to share their personal experiences. The student will also be allowed to take ownership of projects and possibly lead a project to help them gain leadership experience.
