Mission: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Clientele: Girls ages 5-18 and adult volunteers.

Services: Developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and curriculum for underprivileged girls in the Appleton and Oshkosh areas. Serving girls ages 5-18 through fun programs that involve activities, games, songs, and discussion around topics of STEM, bullying, self-esteem, leadership, diversity, and much more.

Internship Description (120 Hours): Internship students will work 10-12 hours per week with a focus on program implementation and curriculum development.

The Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes (GSNWGL) has numerous opportunities to work directly with young girls in several different types of programs. GSNWGL can accommodate specific interests and skills of students with the flexibility to involve a variety of experiences in the following programs:

1) Shine is programming at Fox Valley and Oshkosh Area Public Schools that have a high percentage of students from families with a lower socioeconomic status. Along with staff, interns will offer programming for 20-30 minutes during lunch-time recess or during the sites after-school program. Interns will plan and implement these programs with staff.

2) Community Connects is programming that is offered in collaboration with other youth-serving agencies such as the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, Salvation Army, and Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Shelter. Along with staff, interns will plan and implement these programs.

3) New Visions is programming for older “at-risk” girls. Interns are needed to help with the planning, organizing, and implementation of these programs. Candidates who have experience working with at-risk youth is preferred and further training will be provided.

Requested Qualifications:

• Desire to work with adolescent girls

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Self-motivated; able to work independently and take initiative in projects

• Ability to work as part of a collaborative team

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other software used by agency

• Ability to speak Spanish or Hmong is a plus

Office hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. School-based programs are typically run between 10:00am to 1:00pm, and 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Office-based work will be available when not at programs.

**All interns will receive a background check and training prior to working with girls**

Advanced Internship Description (280 Hours): Advanced Internship students will work 20-25 hours per week with a focus on program implementation, curriculum development, program development, grant writing, evaluation of programming, and recruitment of girls.
