Internship Description (120 Hours): Student interns are provided a medical continuing disability review (MEDCDR) caseload. They are given guidance on initiating letters to the claimants to obtain updated medical information about the claimant's
disability. They will control the follow-up process for this caseload. They will receive experience interviewing over the phone. The intern will be involved in the promotion of individuals filing their retirement and disability claims online. They will be heavily involved with the claimant's first contact with our office and then assisting the claimants through the process of myssa registration.
Advanced Internship Description (280 Hours): The interns are provided the experience of controlling a full caseload in a unit for processing the medical continuing disability reviews. They will develop and gain experience in the review process from beginning to end. This will include initiating the letters for the medical reviews, follow up on the pending cases, conducting
interviews over the phone on the reviews, and then receive training and experience for face to face interviews with the beneficiaries when coming in for assistance in the completion of their review packet. In this capacity, the intern will be able to see cases being sent for the medical review and then see the decisions coming back as a continuance or cessation. In the 280 hr. placement, the intern will be a key in the first line promotion of online filing for retirement/disability benefits. They will be assisting individuals with their myssa registration on a daily basis.
