Mission: To provide safety, offer support and restore hope to those affected by domestic abuse and homelessness.
Clientele: Women and children who suffer from homelessness or domestic abuse.
Services: Solutions Center offers a multitude of services to those dealing with domestic abuse and homelessness: case management, advocacy, referrals, therapy, safety planning, legal services and support.
Internship Description (120 Hours): An internship with Solutions Center offers a self-directed experience through work at our Women's Shelter. In addition to regular internship tasks (see below), case management and child and teen advocacy work is a possibility.
Solutions Center Internship Position Description
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain confidentially at all times
• Follow procedures and guidelines set forth in operating guidelines manual(s) to help maintain structure and order in the living environment
• Conduct intake and orientation of new clients
• Help enforce shelter rules and policies
• Assist with general office assistance: making copies, updating statistics, etc.
• Enter relevant resident information in daily logs, documenting crisis calls and charting donations
• Distribute and inventory supplies
• Answer phone and door
• Maintain cleanliness
• Provide receipts for donations, and sort and store donations properly
Additional duties:
• Attend scheduled department meetings
• Provide telephone crisis counseling
• Keep current with domestic violence and homeless issues and information
Qualifications:
• Minimum HS Diploma/GED required
• Sensitivity to the needs of low-income, culturally diverse, mentally ill, and victims of abuse
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
• General computer knowledge
• Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others
• Must be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds and walking up and down stairs
• Must be able to remain awake and alert during entire shift
Advanced Internship Description (280 Hours): An internship with Solutions Center offers a self-directed experience through work at our Women's Shelter. In addition to regular internship tasks, case management and child and teen advocacy work is a possibility. The Advanced Intern will have the opportunity to assist with or lead support groups.
